B for D is Always a Winner!

Here in the Berry house if I announce we are having B for D you would think I announced we won the lottery! It is like a real treat for the boys and I am really not sure why. But, I have decided I would start changing up what they expect and see if they like it. This past week I tried a different casserole. One I got from my dear friend Paige. I changed it up just a tiny bit, but the over all verdict was “HOME RUN BABY!” Per Trey and the boys loved it too! So this little recipe definitely will be going into the Berry dinner rotation.

Poblano and Sausage Casserole

Ingredients:

2 Poblano peppers

Olive Oil

1 pound ground sausage (You can use lean turkey sausage and make it leaner)

1 Onion (I got the box already chopped in the deli section)

1 Tablespoon chopped garlic from the jar

5 Egg Whites

4 Eggs

1/2 Cup milk (use skim if going leaner)

1/4 Cup greek yogurt

1 Teaspoon kosher salt

1 Teaspoon black pepper

1 Cup shredded cheddar cheese (use low fat if going lean)

4 Cups shredded hash browns

Prep:

Preheat oven to broil.

Cut your poblano peppers in half length wise and remove the seeds.

Coat the peppers in olive oil and place on a cookie sheet skin side up. Place under broiler for 10-15 minutes or until peppers are nice and charred. Remove from oven and let cool.

Take ovens temperature back down to 350 and lightly spray a 9 x 13 baking dish.

While peppers are cooling put about 1 tablespoon olive oil in a frying pan and place your onions and garlic in the skillet and heat them up until translucent. Once translucent add your sausage and brown your meat. Once your sausage is brown, drain your grease and set aside.

Remove the charred skin from your peppers and dice them up.

In a large bowl whisk your egg whites, your eggs, milk, yogurt, salt, and pepper. Whisk it until the lumps are out. Add your sausage, chopped peppers, cheese, and hash browns and mix well. Make sure all hash browns are coated in the mixture.

Pour into your casserole dish and bake for 1 hour covered with foil. Uncover and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until top begins to brown. Let cool.

Serve with avocados, tomatoes, and salsa!

April Book Review

So I missed March! But with very good reason…..I was on a mission trip and I got pneumonia and I just could not keep my eyes open. I hope I never get that mess again! It was VERY bad! But, as the saying goes, “I’m back and I am better than ever babe!”

With one exception….Most of the books I read this month were great, but one, well I just can’t lie. It was hard. It was deep. It was an entire experience and one that I have yet to complete, but I am just worn out from trying to understand. I am sure it is an exceptional book, but I think it was a little deep for me. With that being said I will leave it to you guys to decide!

The book is A Tree Full of Angels: Seeing the Holy in the Ordinary, by Macrina Wiederkehr. I really want to like this book! I can tell I would love the author! And I know this sounds weird, but I got some good advice from it. I actually shared it in my letter to God so I am not sure why I am having such a hard time grasping alot of it. Maybe that is all my heart can take right now. Who knows. All I know is I will finish this book someday and I think everyone who is really searching for a spiritual path, well, maybe this book is right for you. Maybe you and I could discuss it. I really do believe in my heart of hearts when I pick it up again I will get another little nugget of inspiration like I did this time. I know this all sounds weird, but just trust me and get it and see if you can feel what I am talking about.

Tree Full of Angels by Macrina Wiederkehr (1995) Paperback
HarperOne; 1st Harper & Row Paperback Ed edition (1995-11-29)
Buy on Amazon

I decided to then pick up my gal pal, Rachel Hollis’s book, Girl Stop Apologizing. So here is my honest feedback. 1. I LOVE RACHEL! 2. I LOVE HER STORY! 3. I follow her on social media. 4. I went to the movie premier of Made for More. And 5. This book was a repeat of all of that. So for me, well I have heard it all. For you, if you are new to Rachel, then you might enjoy it. I did take alot of notes, but it was stuff I had heard before. So in a nutshell. If you are like me and love Rachel and you feel like she is your bestfriend, then get the book to support her. If you follow her, but could care less about her story, well you have heard the material. If you do not follow her, get the book and start. Am I glad I got it? Heck yes! Did I love it? Yes, but simply because I love her. Will I read it again? Probably not seeing that I stock her on social media!

After reading two books on improving myself, whether it be spiritually or emotionally, I decided to turn to chic lit and take a moment. So I picked up Hissy Fit, by Mary Kay Andrews. This book was just what I needed! It starts out with the main character catching her fiance having sex with her best friend minutes before the wedding! Yep! That was all I needed to be hooked! It was a light read about crushed dreams, relearning yourself, and new beginings, but not without a little bit of fun here and there, and a huge plot twist that I never saw coming. Would I recommend this book? Absolutley! Especially if you just need a break from reality and you want to get wrapped up in someone else’s drama!

I guess I was thinking that Hissy Fit was enough of a break from heavy material and I decided to read The Tattooist of Aushchwitz, by Heather Morris. What was I thinking? This book was so good, but so heavy! I literally had to make sure not to read before I was going anywhere around people because it would bring me down. Like really down. I will say it is a great story about perseverance in the midst of hell and how the human spirit really is amazingly strong, especially when love is involved. If you are a sucker for a beautiful love story and if you like stories about the true strength of humans, then this book is for you.

So I found myself needing a break from heavy again and I decided to go to my favorite author who never lets me down when it comes to an easy story, with a little bit of drama, little bit of love, and always a beautiful setting. Elin Hidlerbrand! I just love her! I always know I can count on her books and this one was no exception. Winter in Paradise was such a fun read. Although it did include a plane crash and anyone who knows me knows I am terrified of flying so I hate seeing movies with plane crashes or reading books with plane crashes. The good news is this book did not really focus on the crash in detail so I was super excited about that. In true Elin form though there were a few plot twists that kept me so interested. Basically the husband of the main character was in the plane crash with his mistress in the middle of the BVI’s. That is all the information I want to give you as I promise you will love reading this book. It has a sequel and I can’t wait to dive in!!!!

Last book I got, I actually got on audible per the recommendation of the person who told me about it. Not sure if yall remember I had a little dental emergency after I was coming out of my pnemonia fog. It was a Friday afternoon and my cap fell off. My dentist could not see me, but she referred me to a guy in Plano who generously waited for me and fixed my tooth. We got to talking about life and he suggested I get the book, God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life’s Little Detours, by Regina Brett. Not only did he suggest this book, but he told me to get it on audible. BEST ADVICE EVER! Hearing Mrs. Brett read her own book was amazing! And the book is basically what the title says. Life is too short, don’t sweat the small stuff, stay present, and know God has you and will not blink. This book will be a gift I give always! I can’t begin to tell you how special this book is! I highly suggest you getting it on audible like I did and then getting to have by your bedside to refer to often! I did! I am not kidding…..go to this link now and buy it now! Dont’ think about it! Just do it!!!!! You will not regret it!

So that’s March/April!

I would love to hear if you have read any of my suggestions and if you have send me a picture and your thoughts and I will post it on instagram as a re-gram! Would love also to know what you are reading! I am always looking for a new book!

Until next time!

XO,

Amy

But, we have to get through May to make it to the break! And let me tell ya…..when you have two high school aged kids in the house and an elementary aged child….well, put your seat belt on folks! It is about to get messy, busy, and stupid crazy, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel! And we mamas still have to cook and feed those kids! This week I have mexican themed dishes because some of you might have a Cinco de Mayo party or two to go to and most of these dishes you can bring along! So I thought I would kill two birds with one stone here! Hope you like what you see. I promise they are all very easy and very tasty!

Mothers Day Gift Ideas

Mothers Day is just around the corner….This holiday still stings a little. Not really sure why either because my Mom hated getting gifts. She would always say, “Send me a hydrangea or a gift card to get my hair done.” Honestly now I just wish I would of done what she asked instead of tried to do otherwise. That was what she wanted, but I always thought I needed to be creative. Truth is, my mom was stupid simple! Like ridiculously simple and I don’t think I ever honored that because….well….I am not! That is the truth. Now I wish I would have just relished in her simplicity and then it would have alleviated so much stress! Learn from me!

Today I am here to help those of you whose moms might be like me….not simple….does not make them good or bad, just makes them someone who is hard to buy for. It is very ironic for me to write that. Why? Because I use to think my mom was hard to buy for and that was because I was too selfish not to see she was really simple and wanted just what she asked for… a phone call, a card, and time. That is all…..nothing big, unique, spectactular, or god forbid something she would have to dust! That makes me giggle but it is so true! So today I am bringing ideas to you especially if your mom is like me and likes thought out gifts. If she is not get her, her favorite flower, a card, a phone call, a framed picture, a gift card for a mani/pedi, or her hair. She will love it! Trust me…..but most importantly if you can, give her the gift of your presence. I so wish I could.

These are some of her amazing earrings…I have the rainbow hoops and love them!

These are some of her amazing earrings…I have the rainbow hoops and love them!

Jewelry! Jewelry is always a good go to! I have two sources that I love! One is a personal friend and her jewelry is delicate and precious and the other designer I do not know, but I love the sentiment behind her pieces. Check these girls out! I promise you can’t go wrong and you might even find something for yourself.

First up the amazing Jennifer Porter. Now Jennifer’s pieces are unique and very classy. They are simple and pieces you can wear everyday. I love how delicate they look, but how amazingly sturdy they are. I wear my heart necklace ALL the time to remind me of Worthy Heart and my purpose. I have beautiful rainbow hoops which are multi colored sapphires, in honor of my beautiful boy JP and to remind me of God’s promise. I got these as a gift from two VERY special people in my life, Elizabeth and Corinne, and I wear them everyday. Jennifer does not have a website, but if you are on instagram I HIGHLY encourage you to go check her out @jenniferporterjewelry She is out of California, but if you live in Dallas, rumor has it she will be here in May before Mother’s Day. If you would like to go see her jewelry in person send me a private message and I will see what I can arrange. She has also generously offered my readers a discount code of 10% off if you mention WORTHY HEART! So go take a look and get you, your mom, and your friend a unique, beautiful, thoughtful, piece! Everyone wins!

This is my heart necklace that I wear everday all day and all night and everywhere! I love it so much!

This is my heart necklace that I wear everday all day and all night and everywhere! I love it so much!

For my more sentimental mommies. Lisa Leonard Design is your girl. I have a number of her pieces as well and each one represents something about my kids, from their names to their birthstones, to sentimental stories that only I would understand. If your mom is sentimental and likes jewelry I highly suggest you taking a look at this gal. Each piece is simple and can be worn with jeans or your little black dress. The nice thing is, no matter how you are dressed, you are always wearing a piece of your heart!

Some of my favorites! Each ring represents each one of my children. The gold one with diamonds in our precious baby in heaven.

Some of my favorites! Each ring represents each one of my children. The gold one with diamonds in our precious baby in heaven.

If your mom is more like my mom and is so simple that the only piece of jewelry she wears is her wedding band you could consider skin care. After all we ladies like to keep our skin young and dewey! I have the perfect company for you! Busy Beauties. I am actually in love with their products. To see how I got started wearing their skin care click here! I promise your mom or friend will LOVE their products. They have hair products as well that I have not tried yet, but people who have just rave about it! So if you know someone who would love skin or hair products….or both….go check them out here If it is your first time to order they have given me a code of FIRST and you get 25% off your first order. If it is not your first time you can enter the code YAY20 and get 20% off! Happy shopping!

IMG_0268.jpg

The next idea I have is what I got my mother in law….I really hope she is not reading this now….if you are Gramzee….HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! My mother in law LOVES to give gifts that help people and I wanted to incorporate that in the gift we got her this year. While I was at a women’s retreat at our Church in February there was a vendor who had the coolest product! SaPeyKa! They are a woman owned, who sell handmade quilts made from vintage saris in communities located in South Asia. How cool is that? And you guys, these quilts are stunning and so soft! I want one! They come in all kinds of colors and textures. I am thinking about getting each boy one for Christmas they are that GREAT! You can check them out here and I promise you will not go wrong with this gift! They are a little pricey for a blanket, but they are handmade and so stinking soft! I can’t wait to get my own! If you do purchase one, make sure to mention Worthy Heart’s Mother’s day post and you will get 20% off!!!! AWESOME DEAL on an AMAZING blanket!

If your mom is like me and likes to cook then a fun cooking gadget with an awesome tea towel or apron is always a neat gift. I have just the idea for you!

Last idea I have is my new water bottle from QuiFit! Every women needs to be drinking their water! If you are like me you need help and you need a challenge! I have it! Check this puppy out from Amazon!

Now if your mom has a sweet tooth like me and you want to give her something sweet yet classy, you really shoud check out We the Birds Macarons Their macarons are not only beautiful they are so tasty it is ridiculous!

IMG_0274.jpg

Last but not least if you are in the Dallas area and you want to just stick with what my mom always asked for, I have the florist for you! She actually does it out of her home and her flowers are stunning! You can find her on instagram @haute_chic_designs. Her name is Sara Tran Quang and her work is impeccable! Take a look and message her if you are in the area! I know she would love to brighten your mothers home!

So there are a few ideas to treat your mom, sister, wife, friend, or honestly yourself! Being a mom is a challenging, but oh so rewarding job. Every once in a while it is nice to get a thoughtful gift that will remind us that the challenges we moms go through are so worth it for the beautiful gifts from God…..our children!

Happy Shopping and Happy Mothers Day!

Amy

This with real noodles, but you can use zoodles just as easy and it is still as good!

Day 4: Grubba’s Meatloaf: So my father in law was in the Air Force and legend has it when he would come home from being away he would send my mother in law to her parents for a little time away. She too had three boys and my father in law was gone quite a bit. 20 Years in the airforce will do that! Thank you Grubba for your Service! Point is he got REALLY good at meat recipes….Boys love their meat and potatoes! This recipe right here is super easy, super good, and if you have children that are scared of meat in a loaf, trust me it is a thing, just call it meatball meat! For some odd reason wording it differently does the trick! Who knew?

Courage, Hope, Renewal....the Comeback

When people make mistakes, struggle or disappoint ... what’s your response when they WIN?

I could give you a lot of reasons why I don’t like Tiger Woods. Until today. Why I wouldn’t want him to win another Masters....or any tournament for that matter. Reasons why he doesn’t “deserve” to win. But if I am rooting against Tiger Woods, I am rooting against myself.

We all fail. We all disappoint. We all mess up. Big time. Tiger is no different than me. Maybe a different kind of failure or disappointment or mess up. His is more public than most of ours. But still human. In need of a Savior. In need of forgiveness.

He had it all. Everything. Until he didn’t. And the fall was not a small one. It was documented everywhere. All his sins, and there were plenty, for the world to see. Whispers, finger pointing, head shaking, headlines.

Slowly, with almost nobody watching and even less believing, he started coming back. An injury almost ended the comeback before it even started. He persevered through that as well.

Sunday, April 14, 2019, with the world watching, he does it. A generation who years ago sat with their dads watching Tiger win, sat with their own kids now and said, “watch this.” A generation inspired to become and excel at golf by watching Tiger on TV as kids watched one more time today as he passed them on the leaderboard.

His children who watched it all unfold over the last decade with their own parts in the story are waiting for him just off the 18th green. The mom who watched her son have it all, and then lose it all, is waiting too.

She never left...(by the way. Mommas almost never do).

The story isn’t perfect. They never are. We never are. But it’s a heck of a good one. Watch closely kids. Being great is one thing. Being great after falling out of grace takes twice as much work and ten times as much courage. That’s the good stuff in life. That’s why a bunch of old dudes got tears in their eyes.

He hadn’t won a major in 11 years. 11 years! He has had personal issues and health issues. He let down many with some of his actions. He hurt loved ones. He let himself down. And I realized that this connection I had with Tiger is because I need the same grace as he does. I need the same forgiveness and redemption we all do. If I think it should be withheld from him, why should it also not be withheld from me?

If we pause long enough, we can all find ourselves in Tiger’s story. And that’s why we find so many celebrating....not so much the man as it is the celebration of grace and forgiveness and redemption we all need!

Sometimes the Comeback is even bigger than the Setback

Have a great week y’all

 #Repost

Wish I could take credit for the above beautifully written story of Grace and Redemption…..I cannot, but I know one of the gals who wrote it, Barri Martin-Pautz, along with her friend! It was just too good not to share!

May this Easter we all remember this: Because He is risen we too can rise above!

Happy Easter My dear friends and readers!

Day 2: Chicken and Rice Soup I really like making soup, sandwiches, and salads on Monday nights because what that does is it leaves me with soup to eat on all week at lunch- which is a lot healthier than any drive through. I don’t do it every week because I like to keep the family on their toes, but I think I would if someone told me they LOVED having soup! Ha!

So good and so nice to have to eat on all week!

Delish Spicy Tomato Basil Soup

I love soup and I love making a big pot on Monday’s and eating on it all week. My family does not like me doing it every Monday, but I proimse you this, if I could I would! It is so great to have yummy soups, on hand, that use only whole, unprocessed ingredients! Added bonus you avoid going through a drive through at lunch when you have a healthy soup in the fridge to eat on all week!

This past week I tried a recipe that I adapted for my family from Primal Mom. If you don’t know her I highly suggest you checking her out. EVERYONE loved it! I served it with grilled cheese and during the week when I ate from it, I just added some advocado on the side and bam….healthy and clean living at lunch! So give this soup a try and let me know what you think!

Spicy Tomato Basil Soup

Ingredients:

1 package of boneless, skinless, chicken thighs ( I used 8)

3 tomatoes

Crushed jarred garlic

2 cups spinach

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried basil

Fresh cilantro (1 bunch)

1.5 cups heavy cream

5 cups bone broth (I used chicken)

2 tablespoons butter

salt and pepper to taste and parmesan for topping

Avocado for side

Prep and Instructions:

In a gallon bag add your chicken, 2 tablespoons of the crushed garlic, oregano, basil, and as much chopped cilantro as your family would like. I chopped up 1/2 cup and it was perfect. Shake it really well and put it in your slow cooker for 3 hours on high along with some of your broth. Not all of the broth. I used enough to have some liquid in their with the chicken. Mom Tip: I put my chicken in the crockpot in the morning and my crockpot once done goes to warm so make sure if you are doing this to add enough liquid so the chicken does not dry out.

About an hour to and an hour and a half before you want to eat shred your chicken but keep all the liquids from the crockpot. Chop your tomotoes. In another stock pot add your tomatoes and another tablespoon or two of chopped crushed garlic with your butter. Saute for 2 minutes. Add the rest of your broth and everything from your crockpot and mix well. Simmer for 1 hour and then add your cream and spinach to the stockpot. Mix well and simmer 20 more minutes.

Serve with grilled cheese or if trying to be healthy half an avacado sliced and parmesan cheese! So good!

Bon Apetit!

Letter to God

Dear God,

As I sit here to write this letter today, I am conflicted. Conflicted on the one hand because deep down in my heart I know you exist. I know you are there, but on the other hand I really don’t think I have believed that as of late. It is safe to say I am not sure I even trust you have me and my family in your best interest. That pains me to say it, but I realize it is true. I know you know what all this family has endured in the last year. I know you know all the pain and I also know that I feel abandoned somewhat so I am coming today in hopes that if I get this out and off my chest I can let go of it.

I am mad at you. Really mad. I don’t understand alot of things and I don’t understand you really. What is weird is you keep finding little ways to show me you still have me and you are here. Just the other day for instance, in the book I am reading the author suggested a new way to read scripture. Slower, more methodical if you will. She explained sometimes something might stand out. A word, a verse, whatever. If it does she said to stop. Well, yesterday in Hebrews 3 what stood out to me was Jesus WAS faithful. Moses WAS faithful. For me it was a whisper to stay faithful. I stopped right there and wrote that down in my journal and on my to do list. I made a vow that I would refer to it when I felt you were not with me. I held on to that all day. This morning I got up and started back in Hebrews 3 and kept reading and in the same chapter another thing stood out. Hebrews 3:6 talks about how I am the house and Jesus built me and He would never destroy me. So….I wrote that down on my to do list and referred back to it all day. Today was one of those days too where I needed it. BAD! Maybe that is why I decided to write to you.

Want to know what else is weird? I have not even decorated for Easter. My friends who know me know that is not normal. I just can’t bring myself to do it. Not sure why, but honestly I have not even thought about the fact that it is lent! What does that say about me? I am not sure. I know it bothers me. Why? Well, because I was raised in the church. I was raised to know you. I was raised knowing lent was a time to give something up. Which personally while we are on the topic I think is stupid! Giving up chocolate is suppose to make me closer to you? I don’t think so. Give up coke? Forget it! That will just make me crabby! I like the idea of doing good and being more like you. It’s kind of a mute point anyways! This is the last week of lent! So whatever…..

Point is I am kind of lost right now and really wondering where you are. I am not really sure what is at the root of this either. Is it anger? Is it unforgiveness? Is it a person or people? Is it a situation? I don’t know…the only real thing I know is I was taught long ago by Mom and Dad that simply following you does not make life any easier. Sometimes life is hard, sometimes people hurt you, sometimes situations stink, and they said when this happens hit your knees and pray. Well, I have been. I have even gone so far as to pray for people that have hurt me. All I want is peace. Isn’t that what we all want?

So as I sit here and write this honest to God (no pun intended) I feel a peace coming about me. Weird how this happens. As I reflect I am reminded that the first words out of your mouth after you rose from the dead were “PEACE”….. Which is really weird seeing that Easter is days away….so I am days away from the day you said this! I know the enemy is just attacking and I know he will continue to attack and you know what I am going to say to that…BRING IT YOU IDIOT! I am realizing while typing this letter that yes this has been a tough year, but you know what else, I am realzing my family is all the stronger for it and so am I. I am realizing you are working through me and my family and I am realizing that right now I know in my heart I believe in you and I know you…. I am just not sure what you, God, will do with me and my family. Want to know what else? It is ok. I love you and I know you love me. So I will just remember….I can’t, You can, so I will let you! I can’t love right now, but you can love me, so I will let you…I can’t take this hurt from my heart or change it, but you can, so I will let you…..I can’t change the situation, but you can, so I will let you…..I don’t know what the future holds, but you do, so I will trust you.

That is all I can do…..Thank you for loving me and my family and I know you will forgive me for this letter and I know you understand. Thank you for that!

Love your child,

Amy

Simple Supper Suggestions for Your Busy Week #1

Simple Supper Suggestions

I got a crazy idea last week and I want to try it out. My mission I am finding is to help busy people simplfy their lives while also teaching lessons I am learning along the way. I am by NO means an expert, but what I am is a busy mom with ADD who loves and adores her family but does not want to lose herself in the rat race of life. Any of that sound familiar? If so you have come to the right place and I hope I can help and maybe you can help me! Who knows? Wouldn't that be a win/win! So if you have any suggestions, ideas, or want to see something by all means throw it out there. I am listening and open! That is how we all grow!

So back to what today is all about....Today I would like to try throwing out simple supper suggestions for you all. You can take what you like and leave the rest. Why, How, And Where to Next

Hey there! Today I thought I would do something a little different for my new friends, but still fun for my old friends! I thought I would share with you all a little about me, why I started this blog, how, and where I think I might be taking it next.

Truth is I started the blog when I lost my mom. You can read all about that here. I found it very therapeutic and I just kept going with it. Before too long I had a friend helping me and encouraging me along the way and then I became bestfriends with this deal called Google! You might of heard of it. If not, I HIGHLY suggest you checking it out. It is a pletheria of information! But I digress…..

I find so much joy and peace writing….

I find so much joy and peace writing….

Slowly I began to see people following me and I was like, “Whoa, people like what I am saying!” Talk about a mental boost. Then the Berry house had a storm hit. A big storm and I took to writing for therapeutic reasons again. I did not care who was following I was just pouring myself into my writing. Some things I shared, others I did not, maybe someday I will, who knows…..point is it helped.

IMG_2250.jpg

I started seeing a pattern in me with my dance and writing. I started seeing that I like motivating people. I take that back. I LOVE motivating and inspiring people. It fills my bones with joy yall! Even if it is just one person who messages me and thanks me, or one like, or one share, it drives me! So I kept going and I enrolled in some classes.

All of the classes say the same thing. Find your mission, your brand, your goal. Well for someone with ADD and a busy lifestyle that is tough. But I am on a mission to do that. Next they tell you to find your ideal audience. I think I know mine. Parents or individuals wanting to be parents and anyone raising their parents. Along with your audience they want you to know your content. Content…..Lord knows I have a ton of content! My life is chalk full of mistakes and wins. One day at a time is my motto! And last they talk to you about engagement. Engagement from your followers. Well, I am still learning this one. Work in progress! One day at a time! But, I am really interested in listening to you and what you would like to see. So, if you have something you want to know, or an idea you think I should run with, by all means….tell me! I am open and ready. If it is something I can be honest with and about, I am all in! If not, I will tell you! Trust me, I won’t hold back and I think it is safe to say, most of my friends would tell you that I am an open book for the MOST part.

IMG_0866.jpg

SO! Where to next? Well I am seeing I have a passion for teens. I am seeing that the teens of today and really all of us are more connected than ever yet we are so disconnected. We are disconnected from their families, our friends, and our lives. This is scary for us, but especially for our kiddos! Honestly social media is suffocating our teens. I would not say killing them, but I do think suffocating them. They are hiding behind it and they are hiding behind their screens. We are too if we are being honest. Heck as I sit here typing this I think to myself, “Am I being a hypocrite?” I think there is definitly a balance and the balance will look different for each individual and each family. I know there is a balance though. So my direction is balance…..the balance to finding peace and knowing you are worthy! And let me state for the record right here right now, “NO! I do not believe balance can be achieved 100 percent!” Sorry, I just don’t! That is too a hard thing to do in this day and age. What I am hoping is that I can help you see that we are all in this struggle together. Sure some of us, not me for sure, look like we have it all together, but the hard truth is we don’t. So let me take something huge off your shoulders….YOU ARE NOT FAILING AS A HUMAN, AS A MOM, AS A WIFE, AS A DAUGHTER, AS A FRIEND, AS WHATEVER YOU ARE….fill in the blank….YOU ARE NOT FAILING! Give yourself some grace and know, “Progress, not Perfection.”

I am no expert and lord knows with my ADD I need all the help I can get, but I am striving! And that is all we can do! Strive for progress not perfection. When you are striving for something positive you can be proud.

One thing I am proud of is the simple fact that I have stuck with this blog. I am a dreamer and I tend to come up with all kinds of ideas, BIG IDEAS, and I don’t follow through. My house is a BEAUTIFUL MESSY example of this! I really want a quaint cottage and I have tons of ideas, some I have even started on, but the follow through is, well, it is just not happening! Same with the boys baby books. Will and JP’s both got off to a great start, but about 6 months in they come to a complete halt and poor Graeme’s book was at least bought! That is about it.

So the fact that I have stuck with this blog is something I am so proud of. She has become my baby and I can’t wait to watch her grow! My hope is you will want to grow with us and share my dream with others. That is the dream I will strive towards…..The dream of helping people realize they are worthy and they are enough! After all that is all we want….to know we are worthy, we are loved, and we are enough.

Until next time,

XO,

Amy

Spaghetti Sunday!

What happens in your house on Sunday evening? Here are the Berry Abode we do Spaghetti Sunday and I would say on any given Sunday you are likely to find anywhere from 3-17 kids sitting around our dinner table and chowing down on Spaghetti! It is really an awesome sight to see and it fills my heart with so much joy! So much so that I thought why don’t I share my silly, simple, scrumptious, spaghetti recipe so other families can do the same? After all sharing is caring!

Mrs. Berry’s Silly, Simple, Scrumptious, Spaghetti

Disclosure: You will have to gauge the recipe depending on the number of individuals you will feed. For today’s purpose I will make enough for approximatley 6-8 people.

Ingredients:

Olive oil

1 box of chopped onions

Jar of chopped garlic

1 lb spicy italian ground sausage

1lb ground beef

Meatballs pre made. You can get these in the freezer section or I like to get them from the butcher at Central Market

1 jar of any vodka sauce spaghetti sauce or any spaghetti sauce your family likes

Red wine of choice, I prefer cheap because it is being used to cook not consume.

Package of angel hair pasta or Capellini (Our family prefers thin noodles)

CRACK BREAD which I find at Central Market and Tom Thumb but you can use any bread of choice. The kids have so lovingly named this bread Crack Break because it is sooooooooo good. It is Juliaan’s German Style Pretzel Baguette Bread that I find in the NON-GMO frozen food section of Tom Thumb and the Frozen Bread section of Central Market.

Bag of salad of your choice. Keep it simple people. Point is to feed the numbers and have everyone feeling happy, safe, and loved.

Sauce And Cooking Instructions:

This is one of those recipes I just go with so my measuring is alot of eyeing.

1-2 tablespoons Olive Oil in a large pot, heat on medium

Add your box of chopped onion and 3-4 tablespoons of your chopped jar garlic

Marinate for 5-7 minutes until everything is translucent

Add your italian sausage and brown that

Next add your ground beef and brown that

Add your sauce

Using your sauce jar fill it 1/4 full of wine (you can use more if you need your sauce to be more soupy)

Let all of that sit on the stove and marinate for at least 1 hour if you have time. Add wine if need more liquid but use your sauce jar so you get all the good stuff out

While the sauce is cooking I like to put my meatballs in a 350 oven for 30 minutes then add them to the sauce. If you use frozen meatballs you can cook according to their instructions.

Cook noodles according to package and family’s liking. My family likes al dente

Cook Bread according to package

Toss the bag of salad

BAM! There is your Spaghetti Sunday! May you and your family find as much joy as we do in it! May it start your weeks off right full of love and communication. May you all feel worthy!

Until Next Time,

XO,

Amy

Not a Beauty Blogger. Just a Busy Mom Who Wants Pretty Skin.

Okay guys! Today I am coming to you kind of in a weird space, but kind of not. I am going to talk to you about beauty products. One brand in particular. Why do I say it is a weird space? Well, because I am not a beauty blogger, but I am a mom, a girl, and aging…..So, I do like to find great products! I need easy, quick, fun, good smelling, anti aging products that make me beautiful, younger, and honestly protect me from the harmful rays of the sun. So when I was asked by three adorable sisters if I would try their new face line I said, “Heck ya! Send on the products and let’s do this!”

I want to start with full disclosure. I am not getting paid. I was simply asked if I would like to try their products and help them to promote them. Of course it is not something for nothing. They did send them to me completely free and I was asked to post pictures of the products and of me using them. Now how could I say no to that? Free products and all I have to do is post a picture or three? Sign me up! What I was not asked to do was write about them, but you guys, I have been using them now for over a month now and I LOVE them! Like really love them! I love them so bad!!!!!!!

Let me introduce you to them! Busy Beauties is a beauty line for busy ladies who want to look and feel beautiful! I mean who doesn’t want that? I know I do! But being a 48 year old mom of three AMAZING yet busy boys, I need it to be simple, quick, and easy! I have found it with this line! Now they , the three sisters, literally just spent one year developing and perfecting high quality products that meet my basic needs and I know from talking to them they are working on so much more. With that being said, if you like quick, simple, smell good, do the job, basics you need to check them out! I promise! And you would be supporting a woman owned business that is making products right here in the good ole USA!!!!! And they are sisters! Sisters who are moms, executives, educators, and doctors!!!!! So busy like you and I!

Meet the 3 crazy sisters! Monica, Katie, and Julie! You can find them on insta @3.crazy.sisters

Meet the 3 crazy sisters! Monica, Katie, and Julie! You can find them on insta @3.crazy.sisters

Now to really put these products to the test, I brought my products on a girls trip and had my friends try them out. I will tell you honestly what they both said and let you decide for yourself if you would like to check them out. I personally think you should especially if you are aging, and I really hope you are because the alternative is….well…you know what it is, if you are busy, and if you like simple and easy, and if you like paying it forward! Do you know why? Because that is what this company does! They donate a portion of their proceeds to the Kids Shouldn’t Have Cancer Foundation which if any of you know me holds a special place in my heart. So talk about win win! Women Owned, Family Owned, Beauty Products that work, that give back! What do you have to lose? Nothing!

I do understand that some of you will need to know my honest feedback of each product so here we go! I was asked to test the skin care so today I will discuss with you my thoughts as well as my friends.

Gentle Exfoliating Hydrating Cleanser with natural jojoba beads

IMG_8652.jpg

You guys this stuff smells amazing! It smells like a citrus party! And the little beads are so cool and gentle. We all know that exfoliating is one of the BIG secrets to staying young. Get that dead skin off! But our faces can be sensitive. These little beads are perfect! “They are not too big and not too fine” is how Diane, my girlfriend, described them. I totally agree. What I really like is a little bit goes a long way and a little bit removes all the dirt, oils, sweat, and make up from my face which is amazing considering I teach dance in my make up everyday. Every morning and night I am exfoliating and it leaves my skin with this dewy glow. I just love it!

Daily Hydrating Cream

This stuff is amazing! It is light and goes on so smooth. What I personally have noticed is on days that I shave my face, yes I shave my face, I am a little redder and I swear once I put this lotion on it really soothes it and calms my skin. It has special ingredients to hydrate your skin as well as stimulate collagen production which will reduce fine line and wrinkles! Heck who doesn’t want that! My friend Paige really liked it and said, “It is silky going on.”

IMG_8644.jpg

Rejuvenating Mint Mask

IMG_8646.jpg

This mask smells soooooo good yall! It is a mix of cucumber and mint so very fresh, very pleasant, and very light. With the special ingredients this mask is used to exfoliate, smooth, soften, tone and tighten your skin. What I also use it for is a spot treatment. If I have an unwanted “visitor” on my face I will dab it on, go to bed, and wake up and that sucker may not be gone, but it’s sure on its way out. I love it. I need to try it on my teenagers, but I have feeling it will work on them just as well too! My friend Paige’s only comment to me about this stuff was, “Don’t get it in your eyes!” I just had to laugh at that!

Retinol Night Cream

Ok I am guilty of not using retinol, but I have been wanting to. I have listened to what the girls have suggested and I have used it about 3 times a week and what I am seeing for me is my skin tone appears to becoming more even. My face is stupid, silky smooth and I am not sure if that is because of a combination of all of the products or the retinol. Either way I am hooked! Retinol is used to stimulate collagen production and cell regeneration to decrease the appearance of fine lines, deep wrinkles, age spots, and skin discoloration. I would say I am seeing the last part of this big time. I feel like my skin color is even without putting on any foundation which is so nice! I did not bring this to the lake, so my friends did not try this, but I promise you will not be disappointed.

IMG_8653.jpg

Daily Protection 30

IMG_8648.jpg

This is the sunscreen and we all need to be using sunscreen. What I like about Busy Beauties is it is light. It has vitamins in it as well as zinc oxide which shocked me, because when I was a kid that stuff was white and heavy and we would put it on our noses. I don’t thing of this as heavy. I do have SPF in my foundation so I only wear this when I am going naked (without makeup) which is rare for me. I dance in make up! But there are occasions and I do like it on the days I am free of make up.

To wrap it up I really love this product! The smell alone had me hooked, but I do really like what I am seeing, what I am feeling, and what I am smelling. I highly suggest you all trying it out. If you are like me and get busy and get behind on skincare this company offers a sweet subscription with no hidden fees or agendas. You can do one off’s but again if you are a busy mama like me the subscription might be the answer for you. You can easily skip a month, swap products which is super cool, or cancel at anytime. Little secret….if you do the subscription, put a reminder in your phone and then you never have to worry. Isn’t technology great!?

So here is to a new skincare line developed by three sisters! Here is to refreshed looking, younger looking, and smoother skin! And here is to simple and easy to use; especially for all the busy women in the world!!!!

Get yourself a kit today and let me know what you think!!!!

Until next time!

XO,

Amy

Where Will You Go Next?

Pure, but joyful exhaustion after a day of work.

Pure, but joyful exhaustion after a day of work.

This past week, Trey and I, along with our entire family, headed to San Antonio, Texas on a mission trip with about 75 other kids from our Youth Group at Church. Graeme and I have been on two mission trips, but I think the rest of the family has been on six or so. To say we get a kick out of them is an understatement. I will not lie to you and say it is all fun and games, because it is not, but it is a week filled with love and a week filled with hope.

One of our amazing homeowners.

One of our amazing homeowners.

Hope for the individuals homes who we work on, hope for these kiddos that come to do the work, and hope for me truthfully. I can’t begin to tell you how much hope I gained from this trip. Seeing these kids work as hard as they do, seeing the homeowners believe in something, and hearing the word of God all week is something I will always be grateful for.

Oddly enough the message this week and the theme was ATLAS….where to next? Where are you headed and what maps are you using to get there. A message I so needed to hear and one I am so glad my kiddos heard. One I hope they take with them always.

The gist of the message is we are all on a plane headed somewhere. We all have been given maps we are using. These maps can be your friends guiding you, society, social media, culture, family, you get the idea. We are all taking cues from someone or something. Some of these cues are harmful, some are helpful. Some cause happiness and positivity while others cause harm.

What we do with our maps is key. If the map is good and leads us in a positive direction by building others up, using positive words, and makes the world a better place , then we are headed in the direction of Jesus and we continue to use it or listen to it. If a map causes harm to yourself or others it needs to go. If it breaks people down to make yourself feel better, gossip, harmful words or harms the earth then these maps are the the maps that move us away from God in the wrong direction and we really need to let them go.

Good news is….no matter what direction you are headed, even if it is the wrong direction, the story of God is a story of hope and He is always waiting for you to pick up the maps to lead you to Him. He wants to be your compass. He wants to be your North Star and He wants you to grab your passport and move toward the destination of love. Sure there will be turbulence along the way and when there is we need to look at our maps and see which ones are leading us in what direction and then WE get to decide which way WE want to go and where WE will go. My hope and Jesus’s hope is you will choose the direction of love. You will choose Jesus.

This is hard! Trust me I know. It is hard to follow Jesus and move towards love. I fall prey all the time to maps that are harmful. It is my insecurity that brings me there. The what if’s. What if my friends won’t like me anymore, what if I am not pretty enough, what if I am not cool enough, what if I dress weird, what if I am not young enough, what if I bore them because I am choosing love, what if….what if….what if…..OR how about I will just do this one more time and then I am going to be good, or I will go even though deep down I know it is not what is best for my family, or I am going to gossip about someone to make myself look better. I promise you I have been there. I go there all the time really, especially when I get lazy and do not do my first 15. But, when I do I know I can repent and take a u turn and head back in the direction. In the direction of love.

I know God wants to transform me to become love and He does not want me to get caught in the murkiness of life. He wants this for you too! I just know it.

So my prayer will be simple from here on out. From here on out my prayer is, “Jesus, where to next? What will you have me do today?” This my friends is a simple yes in the right direction. Will you join me? Where will you go next?

Until next time,

XO,

Amy

Homemade Cream of Chicken and Mushroom Soup

I love soup! I could eat it all the time! And I love experimenting with ways to make soup healthier because we all know the canned stuff is not healthy! Growing up I would eat Campbell’s Soup all the time, but now that I am 48 and my metabolism has a mind of its own I just can’t! Not to mention the amount of sodium they put in those cans!

So I have been forced to get creative and healthy and it has actually worked out great! Why you might ask? Well, because I try to make a big pot of soup on Monday night with sandwiches or whatever and then I eat off of it the rest of the week for lunch! The fact that it is healthy and quick is just a bonus!

This past week I made my version of Cream of Chicken and Mushroom soup. Now I cannot take all the credit for this as I was inspired by my friend Amber over at Primal Mom If you do not know who I am talking about, click the link and check her out. Amber is AMAZING in that she has converted her entire family into primal eating. I wish I could say the same over here, but I cannot and the truth is I don’t try that hard. I hate to admit that, but hey, it is what it is! I do try and cook healthy but we like balance over here. A little bit of healthy and a little bit of chocolate chip cookie, ice cream, and coconut cream pie! I like to think of it as balance! Ha! But every once in a while I come up with something so healthy and so good and this recipe is just that! Take a look and give it a try! I promise your family will love it! Mine did!

Homemade Cream of Chicken and Mushroom Soup

Ingredients:

1 whole chicken (I get the ones at Tom Thumb that are roasted and already cooked)

1 green bell pepper

2 cups of chicken broth

2 tomatoes

1 onion (I get a box in the produce section that is already chopped and use the entire box)

IMG_7570.jpg

1-2 Tablespoons butter

2 garlic cloves or 4 tablespoons of the chopped garlic in the jar (this is what I use)

IMG_7600 (1).jpg

1/2 box of mushrooms

1/2 to 1 box of chopped celery from produce section (or if you want to buy your own chop it I would say 4-6)

1/2 box of chopped carrots from produce section (or buy your own and chop them I would say 4-6)

IMG_7569.jpg

1/2 Tablespoon dried parsley

1/2 Tablespoon dried rosemary

1/2 Tablespoon ground thyme

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 Cup of heavy whipping cream

1 Tablespoon apple cider Vinegar

Prep:

Shred the Chicken

Dice the bell pepper

Dice the tomatoes

Dice the onion unless you are lazy like me and buy it that way!

Mince the garlic unless you take the short cut I do!

Dice the Mushrooms

Dice the celery unless you buy it diced like I do!

Dice the carrots unless it is already done like mine is! Ha!

Instructions:

In a large skillet melt your butter and add your bell pepper, onion, garlic, mushrooms, and celery. Saute about 10 minutes and add more butter if you need it.

Add remaining ingredients, except the chicken: Add your chicken broth, tomatoes, carrots, parsley, rosemary, thyme, salt, pepper, cream, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a boil.

Add the chicken and stir. Reduce the heat and simmer for 2 hours stirring every 30 minutes or so, but truth be known I forgot to this time and it was still good! Just saying!

That is it! And it is so good yall! And full of healthiness! So make yourself a pot of soup and taste the goodness!

Until next time…

XO,

Amy

February Book Review

It’s one of my favorite post of the month and I am a tidbit behind, but hey…progress not perfection….that is my motto.

What do you like to read at the beach?

What do you like to read at the beach?

February is always a tricky month because the boys activities ramp up with soccer, other sports, and JP always travels with acting so I get a bit behind. Hence the reason I only got three books in due to the chaos, but I have to say all three were amazing! I think you will LOVE them all too! So if you are looking for a good read for spring break, check out my February reads and get yourself a good book. Fair warning, two are fiction, super easy, and fun to read, and one is a book about embracing who you are. I like to think of it as a self improvement book, not self help because hey….nobody is perfect and we could all use a little bit of improvement especially when it comes to our heart and feeling worthy! Hence the reason behind Worthy Heart. Point is, my last book might not be the best beach read unless you are a spiritual, self improvement junkie like myself.

So lets get down to business! First up I read Castle of Water by Dane Huckelbridge. Oh. My. Lord. This book was so good! It is all about love, loss, and pure survival. I was so fascinated by the survival instincts that truly kick in when we need them most. From surviving a plane crash, being on a deserted island, illness, to losing the love of your life and more. This book was fascinating and so well written. It is suspenseful, emotional, funny, and thought provoking all in one. Basically it is about two strangers who survive a plane crash and you watch their stories unfold as they hold on to the hope of being rescued. I cannot tell you how much I did not want this book to end. I was so sad when it did. I fell in love with it and I know you will too! As my friend Paige says, “I love it so bad!” Get it! You won’t be sorry!

Another great book I read this month was How to Walk Away by Katherine Center. You guys, this book was so spooky for me because I really identified with the main character Margaret. When you start to read it you might be asking yourself why and I will tell you and try not to give to much away.

  1. Margaret is terrified of flying! Me too!

  2. Margaret is in love with a pilot. Met too!

  3. Margaret wants to have a camp for kids with disabilities….for those of you who did not know me before marriage and kids, this was a dream of mine…who knows….maybe that dream will still come true.

  4. Margaret is the kind of person who can find joy even in the darkest of moments. I like to think I have that ability too!

I just really identified with Margaret is the point so this book resonated with me on so many levels and it was so good! Let’s just say my take away was, “When you don’t know what to do for yourself, do something for somebody else.” Not a bad a take away from a book that is fiction! If you want a book that is fun and can be deep if you look for it, this is the book. It is a great story with so many lessons and meanings behind it. Pretty cool actually! It’s premise is that life can change in a moment, or in the blink of an eye and how you deal with that change will determine your fate. Great book! I think you will like it a lot! I know I did!

My last book was very good as well, but a different kind of good. My final read in February was The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown. Can I just tell you this book is amazing and will change your life and your perspective on life and on yourself. Everyone should read this book. Everyone. Maybe not at the beach on spring break as it is not light, but if you find yourself asking the question, “Am I enough?” This book is for you! But I would like to encourage you in the simple fact that you are! You are enough! If you are looking for advice, encouragement, wisdom, compassion, and love from a friend, well let that friend be Brene and bring her into your home through this book and watch your life become fuller. Get this book! Please get this book. You are worthy of this book!

So that wraps up my February reads….what are you reading? I would love to know.

Until next time,

XO,

Amy

You Are A Gift To This World

My sweet, sweet, JP,

Where do I begin? Today you turn 16! I don’t know why 16 is any different than any other birthday, except maybe 10 because you moved to double digits, or 13 because you moved to your official teenage years, and/or 21 because you will finally be legal. For me it is not different. Do you want to know why? Because everyday you live and breathe is so very special to me. You matter to me and you matter to this world! You my son are a beautiful human being that the world has been gifted with.

I truly believe this JP. You have such a future ahead of you and your future will be a gift to anyone lucky to be blessed by it. I see BIG things for you. Your talent is something people work years to have. God has blessed you unbelievably son. My prayer is you know this and you use this talent wisely. Talent like yours will bring happiness to a world that is desperate for it. How do I know this?

10776967568_IMG_2390.JPG

I know this because every time you are on that stage and you sing, you give your audience wings to their imaginations and their worlds open up… when you are on that stage and you dance, the worlds rhythms becomes a little more in sync…..when you are on the stage and acting the world becomes a little more calm……when you play the violin, the audience listens with awe and beautiful thing happens, their ears hear angelic music which brings peace….It is a beautiful thing that happens to those present when you are on the stage. It is a gift you have been given and one you get to give to the world.

Julie Andrews was quoted saying, “Music and the arts make a bridge across this world in ways that nothing else can.” You my son can be that bridge. You are that bridge! I hope you believe in yourself as much as I believe in you!

So on this 16 birthday son, know how very proud of you Dad and I are. Know how blessed we feel to have been given the gift of you! And know Son that we believe in you and the world needs you! Shine my boy! Shine!

Happy 16th JP!

All my love,

Mom

48 Years Ago Today....

Dear Trey,

48 Years ago today the world was forever changed and believe it or not mine was too. I firmly believe that 48 years ago today, God started to pave the path for you and I to one day be together in marriage. You know why I believe this? Because my mom was a woman of prayer. My mother prayed daily for all of her kiddos and I have been blessed to have witnessed this and I in turn do this now for our kids.

Do you know what one of those prayers is? I would love to share it with and you, but I must confess this prayer has evolved over the years due to lessons I have learned from people who love me and love us. It goes something like this.

Dear God,

Thy will be done with our boys and if I may I would like to be open about what I would love to see, but I will trust your will. (YES! I do say this!) Thy will be done with all the boys. I pray they all three do great in school, they are self motivators, do their work, stay out of trouble, and are leaders. I pray they all know you Lord and have a servants heart and a heart for you. I pray they all get into a college of their liking, one that you see fit for them and one they would love. I pray they get to do their passions, whatever they are, from the arts, to athletics, to work. I ask that you guide them and when they are through with college, I pray the perfect journey will start for them. One that includes their hearts desire as well as a partner and helpmate for life. A partner that you have been preparing for them now with a heart for you and one that will build them up and love them always right where they are. I pray if it is your will they will have children and Trey and I can grow old together watching all of this unfold and getting to be a part of their lives….with our health, happiness, love, and finances in tact so we can participate in life with them. What a beautiful thing that would be God. That would be my dream. Thank you God and I know you have us all but please keep my boys safe from the evils in this world. Protect them and fill them with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, Amy

Yep….everyday this is what I pray….sometimes I add in and sometimes if I am being lazy I just cut to the quick and say something like, “I am tired….please God allow us to grow old watching all three boys grow up to be and do wonderful things.”

I believe in my heart of hearts my mom did this for us. I believe she prayed for us starting October 22, 1970 and December 30, 2000 I believe my mom’s prayer came to life. Maybe not exactly how she would have had it because Lord knows I gave her a run for the money growing up, but when all was said and done I know she thought, “Yes Lord, this was my prayer. This man who loves and adores my Amy.”

December 30, 2000……The day we became one…..

December 30, 2000……The day we became one…..

So February 18, 1971 the world changed because of a beautiful addition, one that would change my world. I am so grateful for you Trey Berry! Thank you for always loving me right where I am, for believing in me when I don’t believe in myself, for building me up, and for giving me loads of grace! Grace that I don’t deserve.

I am so grateful my mom prayed over me like that and I am so grateful you were in God’s plan for me. You complete me and our family is so blessed because of you. I admire you. You are the most courageous man I know and the way you fight for your family leaves me in awe daily. Thank you for believing in us and for setting such an incredible example for our boys. Because of you someday they will make someone feel as safe, protected, and secure as you have made me. My prayer is they will find someone to love them back right where they are… always believing in them like I believe in you!

Our beautiful family….

Our beautiful family….

I believe in you Trey Berry! Don’t you ever forget this! Happy Birthday my love and here is to many, many, more!

You are Loved

It’s February and Love is in the air EVERYWHERE! Everywhere you look there are hearts and although I am not particularly fond of the idea of Valentines Day, you can read about that here, I do love seeing all the hearts! I really do! It probably helps that my logo is hearts and my mission is for all to feel worthy of love!

You are worthy!

You are worthy!

What does it take to feel Worthy of Love?

Which brings me to a big question. What does it take to feel worthy of love? That is a pretty deep question and I think I know the answer to what, but the how can be hard for some people. Let me explain…..One thing I have learned these past few months is that not all of us are as lucky as I was to be raised in a home where God was and is love. Some people were raised in homes where God was never spoken of and others were raised in a home where God was not loving at all, but very judgmental. It is easy to see why some people don’t know God or even worse, don’t WANT to know or believe in God. Shoot all you have to do is turn on the TV and watch the news! All you see is the ridiculous fights among people, countries, families, friends, and let’s not forget all the evil, hatred, and natural disasters. If I am being honest, and I am, it is easy for me to question God sometimes. I have been known to get downright mad at God. I personally think He is ok with that…. especially when I keep the dialog going. Yes, I converse with God, often! Sometimes it is heated, sometimes it is on my knees in awe, and other times it is on my knees is desperation. He is my friend and we have a beautiful relationship. One of love, forgiveness, acceptance, and understanding. He wants that with you too! I promise He does.

Believe it or not, sometimes when things are going wrong in my life I find myself questioning God and even asking Him, “God, what I have I done to deserve this?” It is in those desperate moments I realize that I have lost my image and my belief of who God is-A loving God. When this happens I drop to me knees and open up to Him and really tell Him how scared I am. I find myself grasping at things to thank Him for and do you know what happens? I honest to God, no pun intended, find myself feeling his healing love, his warmth, and his presence. Afterwards I tend to forget all the pain I felt and begin to see the good that came from the pain. It is then that our relationship grows even stronger. How crazy is that?

So what does it take to feel worthy of love? I think it takes a relationship with God. I do know this can be so hard for a lot of people due to a lot of different things. I know for some doubt comes easily and belief is so difficult. My prayer is that you find that personal relationship and understanding of who God is and how much He loves you. I know this will take time and for some it may never happen. That makes me sad. I really want you to feel that presence that I feel and know you are loved right where you are. God is not one to say, “Let’s meet in the middle.” No, He will love you where you are and accept you with the most extraordinary compassion you have ever felt- on good days and on very, very, very bad days. I want you to feel this. It is such a beautiful feeling and so freeing to know you do not have to earn God’s love or work for it-you just need to open up and be receptive to it.

HOW?

You might be asking yourself how? Truth be known, I really hope you are asking, “How Amy?”, and if you are not I hope you will at least try what I am suggesting. It is very simple. All you have to do is pray for greater faith today. That is it. If you don’t like the word pray then all you have to do is say what I am suggesting. It is a simple sentence to God. You don’t even have to say God in the sentence, because honestly He knows and He loves you already….He is just waiting on you. So….all you do is say, “I need and want greater faith today.” Maybe just maybe, slowly but surely you will begin to see and feel the miracles that are happening to you and around you. Slowly but surely, maybe just maybe, you will begin to feel the love, compassion, and understanding God has for you. It is really a beautiful experience and one I hope you can find for yourself. Because I promise you this, once you do your world will change. No it will not be easy street, but it will have a peace and serenity about it that is unexplainable, but very real. This is my prayer for you…..that you will open your eyes to things you have not seen and cannot see, your ears to things you need to hear, and your heart to the love that is waiting for you. Will you give this sentence a try? “I want greater faith today.” God is waiting patiently and when you are ready He will be too! Ready for you right where you are in this crazy, angry, evil, yet oh so beautiful world! Ready to love you because you my friend are worthy!

These are my amazing parents. They taught me that God is Love and I am Loved. You are Loved too!

January Book Review

It has been a while since I did a book review. A LONG WHILE! Four months to be exact! Life kind of got a hold of me and that is ok! It was a quick season of little to no reading, but I am back and I am better than ever babe! Ha! I use to say that all the time! Feels good when you need to give yourself a little pep talk! You should try it sometime.

When I picked up my first book in January, I actually had already read it twice. Yep twice. I was advised to read this particular book seven times. Repetition is king I am being told and I have to say I believe it. Every time I read this book I learn more. The book is short, but I would not call it simple. That is if you are really paying attention. I am sure it is a quick read if you are just powering through, but if you really want the power from it I suggest digging in. I am digging in and I will continue to dig in! I am so on fire about this book that I want you all to consider it too. And not just consider it, I want you to get it and join me on my journey of reading it 7 times! That is how much I believe in it! The book is, The Psychology of Winning by Dr. Denis Waitley. Want to talk about life changing! This book is. Funny thing is it is an old book. 1979 to be EXACT! So an old one that has stuck around which should tell you something. It is full of knowledge. Knowledge that can help anyone who is in the market of attaining a “Winner’s Attitude” not only attain it, but fly with it. Who doesn’t want that? So if you find yourself in a rut, if you find yourself in a season of change, if you find yourself wanting more, than this book is for you! And I will tell you just like I told everyone I gave this book to for Christmas, read it 7 times! Let it sink in and watch your world change before your eyes. Watch your world become full of win-win possibilities!

Next, I read a book that was given to me at Christmas by my dear friend Lyndsy, aka Blizzard, who knows my fascination and honestly my admiration for the Bush Family. Sisters First, by Jenna Bush Hager, Barbara Pierce Bush and Laura Bush. I have to say after reading this book, I understand a little more about this amazing family. They are a family full of love and full of respect! The respect they give each other is something we can all learn from especially in this time of division. I am serious! I am in awe of how these girls were raised! In my opinion they were raised by three simple principles that fell under the umbrella of love: safety first, respect, then let go. They always knew they were loved. Their parents made sure as best they could they were safe. They all had respect for each others opinions, even if the opinion was against your father who was the President of the United States, and Mr. and Mrs. Bush knew when it was time to let go and let live even if it meant making mistakes. They would turn those mistakes into beautiful teaching and growing experiences. I am telling you, if the first family interests you at all this book is amazing. If you are a parent, believe it or not there are lessons in here we can all use as parents, and if you are a history buff there are amazing snip its of history. I highly suggest this book for anyone and everyone! Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Red, Blue, whatever and whoever you are, you might be surprised how there is someone in the first family who thinks like you do! True story people, just because your dad is president doesn’t mean there is a pill they give you and you automatically believe like him AND believe it or not he is WAY OK with that! Great book!

My next review don’t let the title turn you off. One Day in December, by Josie Silver. Yes we are in February and the title speaks of Christmas, but this book is so NOT CHRISTMAS! It’s a love story. A love story that takes 10 years to unfold, which I kind of like as Trey and I took almost that long! The story takes place in London and kind of has a Bridget Jones Diary feel. If you love Bridget Jones like I do, then you will love this tale. The main gal is a bit quirky like Bridget Jones and funny as all get out. Honestly, I find the humor of most Europeans quick and witty so I really found myself laughing with all the characters. If you are looking for a love story this February this is just the tale for you. The ending was quite abrupt I will say, but overall the book was such a delightful, fun read. One that is sure to keep you laughing and smiling and over all feeling good.

My last book for this month was interesting and honestly I found myself writing down a lot of things to think about which kind of struck me as it is a non fiction book. It has a strange premise and in the beginning I found myself working to figure it out mentally, but I did not want to put it down. The book is The Dinner List, by Rebecca Serle. I can honestly say Ms. Serle has my mind ticking. I have put extreme thought into my dinner list and I will tell y’all one person on it is Barbara Bush! Yes, you get to invite ANYONE according to this book! You know the drill, “If you could invite anyone to dinner, dead or alive, who would it be?” That is THIS book! But what was hard for me at first was the book opens at dinner with the main characters “GUEST” and the next chapter was present day. So it took my ADD brain a minute to catch on, but once I did I was hooked and honestly, in the past if I had to work this hard I would just put the book down. Not this one! It is so good. This book will have you thinking and not just thinking about the book, but about your own “list” and why or how you would pick each individual. You might pick one individual who is dead and then realize as the story unfolds you might want to pick a person who is alive so they can see each other. For example, my sweet Mom, there is so much I would love to say to her now and she is gone, but if I picked her I would have to pick my father who is very much alive because I would want them to see each other one more time! Honestly this is a bad example because my dad is so wise of course I would want him there, but you get the picture! This book stirs you and really has you on your toes. I have to say this book is amazing and it is written so brilliantly I want to scream, “CLICK THE LINK AND GET THE BOOK!” That good y’all! That good!

That wraps up my January book review and I have to say I honestly hit a home run on all of them! February has a lot to live up too! Not kidding!

Until Next Time…..

Amy,
